Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock unanimously elected general secretary of WCRC

The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) announced the election of the Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock of India as its next general secretary, marking the first time the position will be held by a leader from Asia. He will officially begin his term Feb. 1, 2026. The Executive Committee of the WCRC unanimously elected Peacock at its meeting on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025.

Peacock currently serves as the WCRC’s executive secretary for justice and witness, a role in which he has led the Communion’s work on economic and ecological justice, drawing deeply from the Reformed theological tradition.

The election of Philip Vinod Peacock — a person who has moved the Communion forward on justice issues — will strengthen our commitment to justice,” said WCRC President Najla Kassab. “We see through his election a new model of leadership rooted in hearing all those on the margins and being shaped by their voices. His closeness to the younger generation in the Communion will be a source of hope for the future, where the youth are heard.”

Peacock holds a Master of Theology degree from Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary. An ordained minister of the Church of North India, he was an associate professor of social analysis at Bishop’s College in Kolkata, where he taught Dalit and feminist theology, among other subjects, since 2000.

I grew up with the WCRC, and I count it a profound privilege to serve our global Communion in this season,” Peacock said. “I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and come with a spirit of willingness to lean on the wisdom of others and learn alongside every member of the Reformed family. Together, may we bear witness to God’s call for justice, unity and transformation in our world.”

The General Secretary Search Committee was pleased to unanimously recommend the Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock as the next general secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches following a rigorous recruitment and discernment process,” said the Rev. Dr. Yvette Noble-Bloomfield, moderator of the committee. “Peacock is vested with gifts of leadership, theological and exegetical insight, and he has a fierce commitment to justice and the work of the Communion.”

Current interim General Secretary Setri Nyomi also welcomed the election.

I am delighted about the election of Philip Vinod Peacock as the next general secretary,” Nyomi said. “I have known Philip for more than two decades, and I give thanks to God for his dedication to the WCRC and its mission to be a Communion committed to justice. He is focused on the church’s call to God’s work of transformation, a skilled theologian, and committed to a leadership style that values both the team and the churches and communities we serve. He will lead the Communion well.”

With more than 230 member churches in 107 countries, representing over 100 million Christians, the WCRC is a global fellowship responding to major challenges including climate change, economic inequality and global conflict.

Further details regarding the installation service and transition timeline will be announced in the coming weeks.
