WCRC: Celebrating the Reformation

To WCRC Member Churches

Warm greetings from the Hannover office of the WCRC!

We have entered October, the month of celebrating the Reformation. October 31, this year, will be 507 years since Martin Luther started a movement that turned the church around to be more faithful to the Lord. Huldrich Zwingli, John Calvin, Marie Dentiere and others built on this. We, in the Reformed family, stand in this rich heritage and are making strides in God’s mission in ways relevant to the twenty-first century. We have responded to God’s call to be transformed and to be God’s instruments for transformation in a broken and unjust world. Sometimes we can get discouraged in the mission. However, the 25th General Council theme compels us not to yield to discouragement but to persevere in our witness.

It is in this spirit that we call on you to observe this year’s Reformation Sunday, which falls on Sunday, October 27. This Reformation Sunday we are concentrating on the twenty years since the Accra Confession and are highlighting the Zacchaeus Tax campaign. Please organize for your congregations to plan for a major element of their worship on October 27 to be on the Reformation. We posted some resources earlier. You can find these resources on the internet at https://wcrc.eu/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Reformation-Sunday.-English.pdf

We would also be grateful if you could plan for congregations to take up an offering for the work of the World Communion of Reformed Churches and channel it through your head office for onward transmission to the WCRC.

The Global celebration will take place in the Cayman Islands at 4 pm (9pm GMT, 10pm CET, 5pm in New York, 4am Monday morning in Jakarta and 6am Monday morning in Seoul) on that Sunday, Cayman Islands time. It will be live streamed. Some congregations can include elements of this in their worship. Please go to the WCRC Facebook page or our YouTube Channel on October 27 and join us in this worship.

Come, let us make the 2024 Reformation Sunday a great time together.

Sincerely yours,

Setri Nyomi (Rev. Dr.)
